the latest news (5-26-08)
The house plans are still at the county. We're waiting for the latest word on the comments. Some days I wish they would hurry up; other days I am worried about the market and how expensive things will get once we break ground. The house in progress next door was halted due to their metal being stolen off of the site. Scary.
I have less than a week at my current position. An old friend was fired (along with a few others) in my department, so I had to take one of her classes. I'm trying my best to stay afloat, and will be looking forward to my new position (and the raise, thankyouverymuch). I won't be in the classroom anymore, and that's a bit sobering. However, I'm looking forward to the new challenge.
Rich's work is going much better after a bit of slow. Not as busy as he'd like, but hopefully things will pick up even more. The bar is going quite well; so well, in fact, that one of the other partners was optimistic enough to buy an even larger part of the bar.
The girls are looking forward to being out of school and heading to Canada in July with Gramma & Poppie. Rich and I are going to try and take them up to Quebec City with my parents for a few days as well. We haven't been as a family before, so this will be exciting. They've been working on some French vocabulary in preparation.

This weekend, we're having the soft opening of our new bar, Brix.
Actually, it's not completely new. A year ago, we opened a wine bar called Brix Eurobistro at Lake Eola in downtown Orlando. What was a great idea turned into low profit due to poor location and low foot traffice due to unending construction. Luckily, we've been able to move it to a perfect location and foot traffic that feeds right into Wall Street Plaza and Church Street.
We have gotten an appraisal on our current home as well as on the plans for our new home. We've submitted the plans to the county a few times, and are working to get them "perfect." well, perfect enough to where they will be accepted and we can move forward. it's no easy task as the house is 4,500 square feet and over 7,000 square feet under truss. i have no idea how i'm going to clean it.
I accepted a promotion at work, and will start as the Thesis Advisor for Full Sail University's Educational Media Design & Technology Master of Science degree. It is mostly for K-12 public school educators who want to be more technologically savvy in the classroom. There's even a filmmaking course that is exceptional. I can't wait.
